Description

Travertines (category)

Used since the time of the ancient Roman civilization, the TRAVERTINE is one of the most widely used marble in monuments and ancient and modern buildings. Some examples are the Colosseum and the most famous monuments of ancient Rome.

TRAVERTINE is recognizable by typical holes on its surface both in vein cutting (frequently used) and in cross cutting. These holes can be left “open” or they can be plastered by concrete (also colored) and by synthetic resin (also trasparent).

In scientific publishing it is described as a fine-grained chalky rock shaped by Calcium Carbonate fast precipitation present in an ancient pond.

TRAVERTINE could be kneaded in different manners so it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor uses

TRAVERTINE’s colors depends on oxides that absorbed during its formation (it happens regulargly thanks to its permeable and porous structure). Natural shading varies from off white to nutmeg, and from yellow to red hues.
